My Wedding Songs

Shaun%20Barrowes
Quantcast

I'm excited to say, "When I Take Your Hand", is quickly becoming one of the more popular wedding songs across the globe. Here's an idea of some of the recognition is has already received:

-Many in the music industry have already deemed it a classic and look forward to hearing it sung in various languages.
-Celine Dion once said it made her want to renew her wedding vows.
-There are currently over a dozen other professional singers performing it in their LIVE concerts.
-It recently won International songwriting contest, "Song of the Year".
-Many have already used this song as their first dance song for their own weddings, and many others have mentioned hearing this at someone else's wedding.

All these things have happened over the last two years, and I look forward to watching it continually spread and become more well-known. It's quite an honor to see people use this song for such a special occasion as the First Dance of their very own wedding!

There's another song of mine that I hope will also reach a similar level of success. A new song of mine, called, "You're All My Reasons". It could also become one of the popular wedding songs performed by DJ's and Cover bands alike. It has already been nominated for a Hollywood Music Award and is beginning to receive recognition from various filmmakers. But only time will tell if this song has the potential to become a "classic".

What do you think? Which song do you like better?

I Am Hammer Hands!

For many years, I had been known as the “pianoman”. However, every time someone labeled me with that moniker, I knew I was getting compared to the great Billy Joel. As proud as I was with such a comparison, Pianoman would always refer to him, and not me. So in order to carve my own sonic niche, I always knew I’d need my own nickname.

After one of my shows, a few fans of mine were complimenting my piano style, and in their description of my hard-hitting fashion, they started using the term, “Hammer Hands”. At the time, I thought it was a funny term used to describe my merciless pounding of the keys. But then, “Hammer Hands” started coming up more and more among my fans. During my pre-show visualization exercises, I started to envision “Hammer Hands” performing for the crowd, rather than Shaun Barrowes. It would be “Hammer Hands” who got the crowds to their feet; it would be “Hammer Hands” who swooned the women; and it would be “Hammer Hands” who earned a deafening applause when the curtain fell. Not Shaun Barrowes the pianoman. I started to like the sound of that.

As a kid, I always fantasized of becoming a superhero. Wolverine was always my favorite, as I’d read X-Men comic books and let my imagination run wild. With this new nickname, I can’t help but feel as though I’ve acquired a piece of that fantasy. Sure, I may not have retractable bone claws or a healing factor that allows me to recover from all wounds, but when I step onto that stage, and the crowds start to cheer, I’m no longer that goofy kid who talks too loud or has a faulty attention span; I am “Hammer Hands”!

The name suits me well—I perform with all reckless abandon, and it’s only fair to let fans know what they’re getting themselves into when they purchase a ticket to see Shaun Barrowes in concert. They should know that Shaun Barrowes is merely my alter ego, and when I dawn my superhero persona, “Hammer Hands”, only then am I ready to rock the stage!

Vote for me...again...please?

Hey, so I won the last contest I entered, and that gave me $30,000 to use towards PR and marketing campaigns. It's definitely helped give my CD more recognition! So first of all, thanks again to everyone who voted for me last time!

Well, I've entered another contest. It's easier to vote for this one--you don't have to sign up for anything. If I win this, I get $100,000 worth of promotional services (radio promotion, tour promotion, online marketing, Music Video, and TV/Film placement!)! So please take 30 seconds (that's really how long this should take!) and cast your vote:

Link:
http://www.urlabel.net/artist/shaunbarrowes

Instructions:

1. Click on the "Vote" button at the bottom left of my player

2. Enter your email address(es)

3. They'll email you a message with the option to vote. Click where it says: "You can vote for this artist by clicking here"--it should be the first link available. Once you've clicked on that link, you've voted!

4. For some reason, the line below "You can vote for this artist by clicking here", there's a second line that allows you to vote AGAINST me. So whatever you do, please don't click on that link!

Make money off of my Music!!

Purchase a Backstage Pass at Slice the Pie (click on the picture above), for $10, and you get a digital copy of the album (which costs $10) and will be investing in my album sales. So you'll be making money off of my music! Now, you can get a "Slice of the Pie"!!

Here's how you do it:
Go to the "Financing" tab, after you've signed in or registered. You'll see a big section on the right that says "Buy a Backstage Pass". Go through the steps to buy one of mine, after which you'll have the option of buying 5 contracts (which costs an addition $1), and that's how you invest in my album. You can read up on all the details to see how much you'll be making, and how to trade to make more, etc. If you have questions, there's a forum where you can ask it and receive a lot more information than I can give you. But you can also ask me if you'd like.

Take advantage and help yourself to a slice the of the pie!!

Great news: I won the contest!

I'll keep everyone posted through my blog.

By the way, you can make money off of my album through Slice the Pie. That's what that website is all about. It's quite a brilliant concept, and if you're interested in making money off of independent artists like me, you should definitely look into it and take advantage.
Check out their website for details: http://www. slicethepie. com.

Kicked off of American Idol, then Facebook, and now…Myspace! I’m really on a roll!

I feel like Captain Jack Sparrow, receiving a smack to the face and thinking outloud, “I don’t think I deserved that”, then after getting smacked again, “I may have deserved that one!”

I’ve had my Myspace artist page for about two years now, and have gotten used to changing my password every few weeks to keep the hackers from accessing my page. Well, I let a few months slip away without taking care of this routine maintenance, and apparently someone got into my account again. In the past, when this happened, my account would just be blocked and I’d be able to unblock it. But this time, it was completely deleted. I blame the one-armed man—it’s all his fault!

I had about 11,000 fans on my page when it was deleted, but if they were true fans, I’m sure they’ll find my page again. It’s a little annoying that I have to start all over, but with these huge networking sites, there’s really not much else I can do. At least Myspace will let me back on—American Idol and Facebook have decided to kick me off for good (I tried to get back onto American Idol and sneak into the top 24…ok, wait…no I didn’t actually do that…).

So anyway, my Myspace URL is still the same, you’ll just notice that I’m Mr. Johnny-No-Mates right now because I don’t have any friends…don’t you feel sorry for me now…

The event formerly known as the Facebook Experiment to Fight Cancer

So I'm following in Prince's footsteps as I change the name of my charity event to:
The event formerly known as The Facebook Experiment to Fight Cancer.

Apparently Facebook kicked me off their site, without any rhyme or reason, but my guess is it's because I included their name in this event. I wish they would've just asked me to change the name of the event, or at least give me some kind of warning. But it's just Facebook, so it doesn't really matter. I'll send them emails to appeal, but I'm not holding my breath for them to respond.

The funny thing is, I just sent a bulletin post praising Facebook for being so much better than Myspace. Yet here I am on Myspace without a Facebook account. Nothing like a little cruel irony to start my day.

I wonder if Facebook saw me get kicked off of American Idol, and decided to get wise and do the same. Lol. I didn't realize I was such a hell raiser!

Well, my charity event will go undeterred, regardless of this set back. My cause is still the same, and this charity event will go forward! Once again, I appreciate your support for my fight against Cancer.

(you have to be logged in to visit that link)

If you're not on Facebook, here's what we're doing:

Between now and Christmas of 2008, 100% of the proceeds generated from the sales of my upcoming single, “Never for My Sake” will be donated to Gateway for Cancer Research. I feel like I’ve been really fortunate this past year in both my personal life and with my music and I wanted a way to give back by contributing to a cause I really believe in.

Here’s the reason I chose Gateway for Cancer Research:
My brother was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He underwent brain surgery and the surgery was successful in removing the tumor. However, it’s not over yet, as he has another treatment scheduled to, hopefully, finish it all off, and we’re hoping and praying for it to do just that.

This experience with my brother has brought me to an awareness of the dangers of cancer, and has inspired me to take action. So I came across Gateway for Cancer Research and found it to be an effective organization dedicated to curing cancer through funding patient-centered clinical studies that make an impact on those battling cancer. (Gateway for Cancer Research)

You can contribute by:

1) Purchasing the song, “Never For My Sake” on iTunes:

2) Inviting all your friends on Myspace, Facebook, Blogger, etc., to purchase this song on iTunes.

I believe this is a great way for you and me to make a difference in the world. I’ve always wanted to improve the world with my music, and here’s my chance. Will you join me?

Biography

Shaun Barrowes
Artist Profile

Shaun Barrowes is a skilled and polished musician, vocalist, and songwriter. His live shows have a jazz flare with an alternative rock flavor.

He wrote the theme song for Shadow Complex (top selling and award-winning video game of 2009), performed in a rock band in L.A., was nominated for the Hollywood Music Awards and an Independent Music Award, and he is touring the US and touring Europe, Mexico, Australia and Canada in 2010.

“I want people to realize that I'm a versatile songwriter, and that I'm very passionate about my music,” Barrowes said. “I'm not just a jazz singer, or a piano/rock artist. I'd compare my music to the light that's refracted through a prism. It comes out in a variety of patterns and colors, but all derives from the same prism and same light source.”

A recent review stated that Shaun Barrowes music “is clearly a nod to a rich musical past and an appreciation of its wide-screen cinema, [but his] pop leanings give the music a contemporary framework—the songs are both a longing glance backward and a running jump forward.”

Shaun always loved music. Barrowes started singing at age three, hammering the keys since six and with encouragement from his piano teacher, made the transition into composition at age 15. By 16 he cut his first record before recording a series of albums and demos. As his music progressed he was able to collaborate with some of the best musicians and music producers in the country. These musicians have artist credits such as Madonna, Michelle Branch, Destiny’s Child, Stacie Orrico, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, and No Doubt.

Shaun is currently working on a couple projects to help motivate young artists and infuse a love for music and the arts. His hope is to give opportunities to these artists that would otherwise be barred from them.

The “Hammer Hands International Dance Competition” is a project Shaun is undertaking in 2010 to help young artists. Anyone ages 15-30 may submit YouTube videos of their dance. Five finalists will be chosen and given an all expense paid trip to shoot a professionally produced music video. They will be coached by finalists and choreographers from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars. In addition, finalists will have the opportunity to win a scholarship to Point Park University. This competition allows all dancers–especially ones in smaller areas who may not have access to the main dance competitions–to have an opportunity they would not otherwise have.

The other project for the 2010 year developed when Shaun noticed how most high school music and arts programs were struggling because of budget cuts. His solution is a traveling fundraising show that will perform with high school choirs and dancers. Half of all tickets sold by the high school goes directly to their arts program. When time and scheduling permits, Shaun is also offering to coach and share his experiences in the music world with the young artists. These examples are just a start of what Shaun hopes to do in fostering a love and appreciation for music in young artists.

Shaun was a finalist during Hollywood Week of American Idol Season Seven and won $30,000 for receiving most votes in a UK Music Contest, Slice the Pie.
